What kind of aluminum plate can be bent-choose the model of aluminum material

Practitioners of mechanical structure design often use aluminum alloy materials, and there are many brands of aluminum alloy materials. The main reason for choosing aluminum alloy materials is the comprehensive strength and density.

I have mainly used two grades of aluminum alloy materials, and I will analyze the selection of aluminum alloy materials from these two materials.

The first type is the 5000 series aluminum alloy, which is mainly used for sheet metal structural parts. The 5000 series aluminum plate belongs to the more commonly used alloy aluminum plate series. The main other elements are magnesium, and the magnesium content is between 3-5%. It can also be called aluminum-magnesium alloy.

The main features are: low density, high tensile strength and high elongation. The density is lower than other series aluminum alloys. The processing technology is continuous casting and rolling, which belongs to the hot-rolled aluminum plate series. The 5000 series aluminum plates mainly belong to one of the more mature aluminum plate series in my country.

Often used is 5052, which has good forming processability, corrosion resistance, weldability, fatigue strength, and moderate static strength. It is used to manufacture aircraft fuel pipes, fuel tanks, and sheet metal parts for transportation vehicles and ships.

The second type is 6000 series aluminum alloys, which are mainly machined parts. Unlike the 5000 series, the 6000 series alloys have added silicon, so that the 6000 series aluminum alloys have greatly improved hardness and good machining performance. It is also suitable for applications requiring high corrosion resistance and oxidation. Easy layer, high strength and strong corrosion resistance. I often use 6061 aluminum alloy for machined parts with good cutting performance (5000 series is not good).

Let me talk about the aluminum alloy status code:

F: Free processing state (uncommon)

O: Annealed state (Mechanical professionals should know, I am also talking about it, annealing refers to slowly heating the metal to a certain temperature, holding it for a period of time, and then cooling at a certain speed. In this way, the material can be reduced Hardness, improve the cutting performance, eliminate residual stress, stabilize the size, and it is not easy to crack when the sheet metal is bent. Simply speaking, the aluminum alloy is in the soft state, which is relatively soft.

H: Work hardening state (also called cold work hardening, which is also the knowledge in the heat treatment course, hardness, strength, wear resistance increase, not easy to process)

T: Heat treatment status (T code must be followed by one or more digits, which is a stable product)
