6000 series commercial aluminum alloys contain both silicon and magnesium which forms magnesium silicide – this formation makes the aluminum alloy heat-treatable. This range of aluminum alloys does not promote the strength characteristics of either 2000 or 7000 series alloys; however, the range is one of the most versatile heat-treatable aluminum's and offers good corrosion resistance and formability with medium strength, due to the inclusion of magnesium and silicon.
